Making a Smash book

I'd never heard of Smash books until a week ago........but now I'm seeing them everywhere.....they definately seem to be the 'in' thing.
I first saw them on Rinda's blog......and followed her link to The Counterfeit Kit......where there's loads of info and some really useful links....including videos. Mel and Karen are also making them.
They reminded me of the type of scrapbooks we kept as children......but a little less random......maybe more focused......and I definately wanted to make one.
Then I saw this great post by Shimelle.......and completely agreed that scrapbookers don't need to buy one....we have all the stuff to make our own......and if you're unsure how to go about it there's some great videos on YouTube on making your own.
So I started sorting and came up with......
Two 8 x 8 heavy duty chipboard squares for the covers.......decided I wanted ring binders....rather than bound....so that I could add pages as I went along......and knowing me there might be some 'fat' bits end up in there....which wouldn't work so well with a spiral bound book.
Mine is going to be made during the next 3 months.......and have a summer theme.......though there'll probably be some randomness as well!! Back and front covers made to match.
I then went through my stash looking for card that might work with the theme.......and came up with this lot.......which might still be added to....and includes some envelopes.......and pages with storage flaps.
And finally some 'bits and pieces' that might work with it......not exactly a kit.......but certainly a starting point that can be added to.
I'm really looking forward to this.......are you going to make a Smash book this summer??

I love how all of us have a different purpose and idea about these Smashbooks. I put a lot in mine yesterday and am so glad I made it. Your cover is fabulous!

Looking forward to seeing your book coming together. I made a rough sort of Smash book to take away on holiday the week before last. I used it as a diary and to keep all the bits and pieces that I collected when I was away. Just need to photograph it now and get it onto my blog!

You are right - this is the "in" thing right now, and I suppose that is because the idea is so hard to resist. I like what you've pulled together, enjoy smashing it up!!

As soon as I saw the Smash book after CHA I was hooked on the idea but now I am even more hooked on the idea of making my own! Not sure what I "need" to capture right now but your post is so inspiring for me to just get the stuff together for my own personal version. Yours is going to be awesome!

Wow - love the look of your kit! I'm still undecided about whether I would use one - so will be interested in how you use yours Hx

I've made mine, but you've inspired me to get together some extras to be ready to use - I'm sure it will be more effective that way.

tfs.

Isn't it funny how old becomes new and fresh and hip again? Love it! I made one of these too but I like how focused yours is! Great job!

I plan on doing this myself, and I love the direction you are going in. I don't own a BIA, so I'm thinking of using binding rings, as well. The products you pulled together are gorgeous, and your covers are an awesome start!
