Oh Christmas Tree

Sian is blogging a christmas memory each Sunday til Christmas.....and has invited us all to join her Christmas Club.........and do the same.......see her post here........and link yours up if you join in.
My strongest memory of childhood christmas is the tree.......always a real one.......always touching the ceiling once the angel was on top [wonder if my dad took a tape measure with him??].......to me it seemed absolutely enormous.......always bought at the market the Sunday before christmas.......nobody had their tree up in early December back then........always placed in the lounge window.........we then spent the afternoon decorating it.......using chairs and even a small ladder......the decorations carefully taken from their box and the tissue paper protecting them unwrapped........many of them were breakable.......and the angel on the top always going on last.
This is a tradition we've tried to keep going.......though our tree usually goes up in mid-December........and I usually add a new decoration each year........an afternoon spent decorating it........usually led by DD2.......who still LOVES christmas decorations........though in the past couple of years she's decided everything on the tree should be colour co-ordinated........and nothing 'naff' allowed!!!!!
edited....this is not a picture of the fireplace we have now.....sadly!!

Your tree is stunning in this photo! We just finished putting up and decorating Sarah and Adam's tree. I hope ours will be up and decorated by Thursday!

Wow, is that your tree Jacky? It is absolutely stunning! Like a fancy shop window display! I love your Christmas memory this week - its so beautifully drawn for us that it's easy to imagine the excitement and smell that tree. Thank you for doing this, it's perfect.

Beautiful tree and setting. Your memory has stirred memories of our tree decorating when I was a child that I'd forgotten about.

Beautiful tree and fireplace.. just SO Christmassy! I gave in to pressure and allowed a fake tree into our household two years ago.. and will regret it for ever more! Takes about 2 hours just to assemble the darn thing. :(

Think I might have to 'lose' a critical piece this year so we can go back to a real tree! ;o)
