She taught me all these things....all except crochet.....I could just never 'get it'......and I've lived my life without being in the least bit concerned by this shortcoming....but recently I've seen lots of gorgeous crocheting [is that a word??] in shops and on blogs......particularly cute little flowers.....I want to make them!!
So.....my friend S gave me 2 crochet lessons at our lovely little knitting shop for my birthday.
Today is the start of Shimelle's 'Learn Something New Everyday' online class......
so what a coincidence that this evening was also my first crochet lesson!!! After the first half hour I was thinking "this is c**p, I know why I never learned how to do this".......but 2 hours later .......I was beginning to work more smoothly.....and put together a row in a minute.....instead of 1o minutes.....and thinking "YES,I get it".
So today I've really learned something new.......well, one simple stitch anyway.......Margi will be proud of me!!

You go girl! That is some kind of AWESOMENESS! WOOT WOOT! Can't wait to see what you've done!
What a wonderful thing to have learned. I am a bit pulled toward knitting . . . maybe someday.

congrats! I learned how to crochet when I was a kid. Have to say - not my thing.
Very well done Jacky! I can't even fathom giving it a try :-)
Great start to LSNED! Can't wait to see what you make!
I can tell there are soon going to be lovely crocheted flowers on your cards!
I learnt to crochet about 30 years ago, my friend Linda and I wanted to sign up for lacemaking classes but the class was full and so the lady convinced us that crochet was a very close thing to lacemaking. We enjoyed the crochet, but the following year when we got on the lacemaking class we realised just how bad she had lied to us!
Well done you, what's next on your agenda then Jacky?
I was at a craft club last night and there was an American lady crocheting a BEEEEOOOTIFUL Afghan for her bed - it looked LOVELY - who knows? Maybe that'll be your next project!!

My Mum sounded just like yours Jacky but one thing either of us could master was crocheting! Love the little flower you have made below, its the cutest and well done to you.

Well done Jacky - I look forward to seeing copious beautiful crochet flowers - they are lovely. They are on my to do list too. Be so proud of yourself - very useful as a grandma too! Hugs Cherry XXX
Yay - well done you, I love crocheting. When I was at home, being an only child,In my teens I learnt to crochet from a girl at school and have been 'hooked' ever since.I've always had a square on the go of sorts. Am totally useless at sewing and knitting though :-)
Oh wow Jacky, that's really great, can't wait to see what you've made. My mam taught me to sew and knit, but I taught myself to cross stitch and embroider. My great aunt tried to teach me crochet, but I couldn't get the hang of it. Well done Jacky.
Happy crafting
Tracy x
Proper crochet lessons sounds fantastic - like you I've had lots of other crafts passed on to me except this one. My sister did buy me a crochet book for my birthday, but I haven't got started yet. Real lessons sounds like the right way to go!
Good for you, Jacky! I am no where near being an expert at crocheting, but I do know it takes LOTS of practice in the beginning. Don't give up!!! xo
How wonderful for you, Jacky! My mother and aunts taught me how to do all kinds of needlework (including my loves: knitting and crocheting.) They have been my faithful companions over the years that I could retreat to in times of trouble. Just the act of moving yarn through my fingers whether on hook or needles has saved my sanity more than once. Enjoy your new learned skill and makes lots of those lovely little flowers.
Hooray for you :-) Clair and I learnt the basics on Saturday night - maybe we should have waited till class started!! Like you, I really want to make those little flowers - so far I can make a chain as long as you like and that's it lol....
Good for you! I can do a simple knit and purl, but have never tried crochet. I would love to know how to make those cute flower embellishments.
Wow! Many congratulations.xx
I learnt myself to crochet a few years ago after being really poorly as it was one of the things I had always wanted to do.. learning to crochet kept me focused!
Many thanks for your blog comment. Good luck with the class. Have fun. Gez.xx
Oh how brilliant! I have never learned how to crochet either but I'd love to some day! Crochet flowers and granny squares seem to be everywhere at the moment. Look forward to seeing your crochet creations soon?
Well done for trying something new, I'd love to crochet, tried and it didn't like me LOL! (something to to with hand movements made my hands very stiff) so I took up beading instead and really like that. I've bookmarked your blog on my blog so I can see what you get up to next as you make me smile LOL!
