I've been to Mallorca a few times.....but always stayed in the north......just passing by Palma from the airport......this was a mistake.....because Palma is a beautiful little city........dominated by 2 things....the largest marina I've ever seen......with a few million £s worth of boats in it......no........ make that a few billions....there was some really serious kit there.......and the cathedral towering over the city.
The city was clean and pretty.........the old and the new co-existing beautifully together...... quiet, narrow streets and squares full of interesting of old buildings
alongside streets bustling with people..........and shops from 'touristy' to designer
And.......unlike Italy......the prices were very affordable......we stopped for delicious ice cream and coffee....though I think OH had had enough of walking by then!!
By the time we wandered back to the boat the clouds were rolling over.......it never actually rained.....but they did make it all look quite gothic....a bit Harry Potterish!!!!
I love looking at the names on boats......and there was a fair assortment in Palma's marina........from the mundane to the downright quirky........my 2 favourites were 'Die Broke' [and from the size of the boat, that was a distinct possibility].......and 'Yet Another Boy's Toy'.....wonder who named that one!!!!

Don't think I'd like to drive through those narrow streets, but the city looks just beautiful. Your poor OH sure does look tired!
Beautiful pictures. Never been to Mallorca, but it's definitely on my list.

We didn't spend as long looking round Palma as we'd hoped (long story...) so it's great to get a flavour of it from your photos :-) Did you go into the cathedral? It's really beautiful, and there's an altar designed by Gaudi xx
Mel, we did go in the cathedral....and it was stunning.
sound like you had a fab time. X

Mallorca is always portryed over here as a crazy party island, and, more recently the home of Rafa Nadal the tennis player. It actually looks like a great place to visit - thanks for the tour Jacky :-)
Thank you so much for your sweet comment Jacky, they sure have blossomed these past couple of years :)
I just wanted to say too how beautiful your photos are. I love the angles and the pretty colours of the different buildings, I feel a few scrapbook pages coming on!
We've just come back from Mallorca and I have to say when booking I tried to avoid Palma but you've converted me now. We were in Alcudia, the beach was beautiful but there wasn't much else really. The weather wasn't great either, still it was a nice break.
Have a great week.
