Who do you make cards for?

Scrappi Sandi made an interesting comment on my last posting......she said that she gave up cardmaking as she hated the thought 'that all that work probably ended up in someone's recycling'!!!!!!
Now...... I know exactly where she's coming from........I put a lot of time and effort [not to mention consumables] into my cards.........and call me a cynic.........or just plain mean.........but I do pick and choose who I give my cards to.........not everybody on my 'cards' list gets a handmade one......I don't want to waste one on someone who won't appreciate it!!!!
I give handmade cards to friends and family who I think will appreciate them.......like my MIL who keeps them all......and brings the xmas ones out every year........I also exchange cards with some fellow crafters and bloggers.....even if our tastes are different.......we appreciate the time and effort that has gone into them.
I do also sell some cards to family and friends.....though the DDs think I should just provide them with an endless supply for their friends birthdays!!
BUT........I can get it completely wrong sometimes......I never gave handmade cards to a SIL.....as I had the feeling she wasn't into 'home made' ......but last year I made loads of cards.......so ended up giving her a handmade birthday and anniversary card........what did she do with them.....framed them and put them on the wall!!!! So you know who'll always be getting handmade cards in future!!!
So...if you make cards....do you give them to everyone......and am I just being very mean????

I would never, ever throw out something someone has made for me..I think it's a shocking thing to do! But I'm lucky to have a family who all really appreciate handmade, and we all make stuff for each other. In fact for years I thought everyone did that..couldn't believe when I went onto UKS and folk were saying their family didn't appreciate their layouts!

I'll find that hat pattern link and send it to you Jacky. It's really easy. And thanks for the congrats too x

I don't create homemade cards often and when I do my style is so much simpler than yours Jacky - so I don't put near the time you do into it - BUT - I still pick and choose who gets them. And send them mostly to people who I know will appreciate them. I don't balk that they might end up in recycling, as long as I know the thought and time was actually appreciated for whatever amount of time the recipient enjoyed the card.

I make nearly all my cards, but some of them are very simple. The more elaborate, 'special' ones go to the people who I know will appreciate them.

I also am choosy who I give my handmade cards to. I loved giving them to my 94-year old aunt. I didn't know this but after she died on Easter, her son went through her things and found a box filled with cards I had sent to her for birthdays and such. I miss her very much but am happy to learn she loved me enough to keep all the cards.

I normally make cards for close friends and family - I would never throw away a card that someone had made for me either.I sometimes struggle with men's and boys cards tho!

I have a drawer which is filled with all of the handmade cards and ivitations I have recieved over the years - simply cannot throw those out! I do pick and choose who get the handmade cards from me though as plenty of people I know would not and do not understand or appreciate the handmade. I have started making simple 4x6 single sheet notecards which appeases my need to make something without going overboard time wise so I'm less fussed with what happens in the end - great way to make use of PS and all of the lovely brushes/stamps that are available and it suits my linear style.

My philosophy is very similar to yours - at least for my "special" cards. When I make cards that are easier/more assembly line, I don't mind who they go out to so much.

I make all my cards so everyone gets one. I know most of them appreciate the work I put into them, but I don't expect them to keep them forever. However, one year I went to a friends' house at Christmas time and she had all my Christmas cards (12+ years then) arranged on her bookcases. I was quite honored.

I make all of my cards too so everyone gets a hand made card but there's hand made and "hand made" so I do much simpler ones for people I don't believe will appreciate them too much. I did send a shop bought one to an acquaintance one year and she rang me to see how she'd offended me, not to get hand made!!!
FAB card and colours - love the layers, as always Jacky and I would never throw a beautiful hand made card away either.

I keep all the cards, atcs etc Ihave received from crafters, so many now, running out of space lol, but they are a great inspiration for me when I need a boost. I am also particular especially at christmas who would get a handmade one lol. 90% of my cards are sold so I don't mind splashing out for someone special. Love your card Jacky, really sweet.

Hi Jacky I love your cards! I have not thrown away any hand made cards I have been sent. I do make some quick, simple cards for some people, special ones for special people and occasionaly bought ones for those I don't think would appreciate it. I am glad I am now into scrapbooking as I can keep some of my fave papers and embellishments in my LO's!

Hi Jacky,

I make all my cards and also hate the thought of them ending up in the bin.. but I try to make most of my cards pretty quick and simple. Only those who I know appreciate them get really special cards which I've taken ages over!

I agree with furrypig.. at least when scrapping you get to keep your creations!
