New Year's Resolutions - I don't think so

I hate New Years Resolutions........I've made them in the past......and not kept them.......and then felt guilty.....I think maybe it is the actual word I don't like.
Over at Ali Edwards blog she suggests you choose a word to focus on for the year....I like this idea.....and the word I like for this year is 'aims'......so much kinder a word than 'resolutions'...... so much more forgiving.........so much easier to deal with........a quiet sort of word.
So this year .........I am going to have 'aims'.........personal 'aims'......'crafty aims'.......'aims' I hope to achieve......but I'm not going to beat myself up about them!!
I'm sure as the year progresses my 'aims' will be added to.......but here's some to get started with
1. I aim to recycle more......I don't do too badly here......I recycle all my glass, paper, cardboard,tin.......I buy and sell at boot sales and Ebay......I belong to Freecycle.......I have an enormous compost bin........I give to, and buy at, charity shops......BUT........I know I buy too much new stuff........and I aim to do less of this, and do more making and finding my own recycled stuff.

2. I aim to grow more.....we have apple trees.....and grow lots of herbs......and this year some veg in big pots.......BUT.......we have a sizeable, very overgrown, sunny spot in our garden.....that I aim to start turning into a proper veg patch.......and 2 weeks ago 3 little trees arrived.....an apple, plum and cherry......all ready to plant......and this week lots of seed catalogues arrived [as they do after xmas].....and I can't wait for the new series of 'Grow Your Own Drugs'.

3. I aim to complete more scrapbook challenges....if you visit my blog.....you know I do lots of cardmaking challenges......I enjoy challenges.....they give me a focus........but I feel I haven't completed enough scrapbooking this year.......so I am going to look at the scrapbook challenges out there......and start completing some.

Have you got any New Year Resolutions??
Have you got a word you'd like to focus on this year??

Oh that is a good idea. I'm the same about New Year's resolutions, they seem to be a set up to failing so I think I shall follow you and do the word focus idea - great! Thanks for sharing your focus for 2010.
Happy New Year. Kim

Great ideas again Mrs, you sound well focused! Like your idea of aims rather than resolutions, mine is Be Happy with whatever the year brings me! Lets have a nice one.

Love your word! And your aims have given me a insight to some other parts of your personality (besides your crafty parts!).

My husband has the same two 'aims' as your numbers 1 & 2. I suspect that I will be roped in to assist in both of them! I agree with you about needing challenges to inspire pages, much better than being left to my own devices! Looking forward to seeing your scrapbooking in 2010.

Aim is so much better than resolution - I don't seem to make them either.
Great focus for the year ahead Jacky!

I really need to think more about my 'aims' for 2010 but my top crafting one is to actually start scrapbooking!! Watch this space!

I love your word for the year 'Aims' its makes so much more sense!

My aims are similar to yours, to do more scrapbooking, I want to complete at least one a week. My plan is complete the weekly challenge on UKS. I'll also attend a monthly scrapaholics 52+12=64 not bad? I just have to stick to it ...

Happy new year, hope we can meet up again soon.

You're right..aims is a much better word. I also heard "intentions" being used and I like it too. All the very best for the New Year Jacky!

I agree.. aims sound much less scary than resolutions! I have so many ideas about my aims for 2010, particularly when in the shower or trying to fall asleep.. I really must try to write them down!

Best of luck with your aims for the year!
