Cruising along with 'Return to the Collection' 1

I've been a bit "bleh" about papercrafting this month.....I think it's the cold, damp, wet, generally yucky weather....when I'm home from work I just want to snuggle on the sofa in the lounge.....watch TV.....and do some knitting or stitching.
So Shimelle's new class 'Return to the Collection' has come along at just the right time to inspire me.
It's a different type of Shimelle class for me.....each lesson is a half hour-ish video of her making a page from scratch....all the pages made from just one paper collection.....but with any number of added 'non-collection' embellishments.
I wasn't too sure if it was my type of class.....but I'm really enjoying it.
I decided to bring back happy memories of a hot summer by starting my 2013 cruise album....and picked an American Crafts 'Shoreline ' collection....which is a selection of pretty bright double sided papers.....with only a very small amount of the collection already used.
I was a bit freaked by Shimelle's use of only patterned papers.....I always use some plain card.....I went with it though.......but I'm afraid there was no way I could waste a whole piece of paper on the tiny outer surround.....so cut out the middle of it first!!
Shimelle used a triangular formation for the three sets of embellishment/journaling.....and I think that balanced the page well.
The page documents us eating at the American Diner on board ship after a busy day sightseeing.
I really enjoyed making it......and am off to start on the second page.....and special hugs and thanks to Shimelle for going ahead with this class despite being both pregnant and very poorly.

It sounds really interesting. I must admit I never watch scrap videos, but I'm starting to think I should carve out a bit of time - there seems to be a lot of good stuff out there. I love what you can do with no cardstock :)

I'm enjoying this class to despite having no collection packs!

Great page Jacky - and well chosen papers - just feels like Summer! I suppose I could apply some of these same concepts to digi kits - I don't have a lot of paper "collections" these days!

Just got round to watching the first video today and I really like the style of page so will definitely be giving this a go. Your page is lovely and the bright summery colours of shoreline are perfect for your cruise photos

The colours match your photos perfectly and I always like a bit of ephemera putting in an appearance. I'd be scared of mixing all those patterns I think, but you've pulled it off as you always do with your lovely layered cards.

I do like that happy page and your collection is great with your photos - I like the inclusion of the receipt too.

WOW! I'd be scared of such bold patterned papers together but your page is stunning, shows it works!
I also cut the centre out when just using the edges :D

I was very tempted by that class but have several going right now & knew I wouldn't keep up. So glad I can get a peek at it through your blog. Great layout - we have very similar photos from our cruise.

What a great collection for a cruise album. Your page lifted my spirits on this cold, winter day!

I've not seen those papers before, Jacky, they certainly suit this theme. Guess what? I always cut out of a paper too when so much is hidden. What a waste otherwise! Besides I love using scraps and pieces left, it feels like a bonus. I've not signed up for this class as I don't scrapbook much. It looks good though and I'm glad you are enjoying it and finding your mojo again.

I'm not very good at using a whole page of patterned paper either but you've done a brilliant job and it looks fabulous.
I would cut the sides out too.
luv
