"You have to be in it to win it......and we're still in it"
So said the player manager on Friday......yesterday 11 young men traveled hundreds of miles north to the field of their dreams.......part-time players from a small non-league football club......in a small town on the south coast......the lowest ranked team left in the FA Cup.......the second lowest ranked to EVER get to the third round......to take on the might of Premiership Middlesbrough......ranked 131 places above them.
And all the commentators agreed that they played their hearts out.......by half time they had saved a penalty and were only one goal down.
The dream did end......they didn't become giant killers........they finally lost the match 4-1.......but managed to score against a Premiership side.......save a penalty against a Premiership side......and probably save the future of their little Club......which only months ago was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Our whole town salutes them.

Gr8 story for storytelling Sunday, Jacky and YAY Hastings!

A story of celebration for your home team definitely fits the criteria of 'your precious'! I always like it when the smaller teams put up a great fight against the larger ones. And I agree, no matter what the score was, it was a completely successful day for Hastings!
My Mum was there and she really gave credit to them. Even thought they were going to win in the first half. They did you proud :0)
Brilliant story! Something uplifting to start the year off on a high definitely feels like the right "precious" for today; you have chosen well Jacky. Thank you and I'm looking forward now because I know you have another treasure in store for another day too.
Great story. When it comes to the FA Cup I always cheer on the "under dogs".
I got goosebumps just reading that! Well done to the little guys!
I love it when a team does so well in a game that is expected to be totally one-sided. Great story.
Wow, kuddos to them! At least, they're not playing for the money, like most soccer players now. Loved your story and bravo for this feat!
Cheers from Bordeaux, France
I luv these stories. My dad's team Cheltenham had an amazing opportunity to play at Wembley last year. He was so excited that his team had such an opportunity. Sadly they didn't the match but they won the supporters hearts just a little bit more,

Great photos & great story telling.
Good to see the under doys being recognised :)
What a great experience for them - so glad you shared it too. Fun that someone's Mum was there to watch!
Great story to share - we were watching it yesterday on the tv!
Definitely sounds like cause for celebration, despite the loss.
Great story Jacky......am not a football fan, but I enjoyed your enthusiasm!

Wonderful! I always root for the underdog. It's so worthwhile when they play their hearts out even if they don't win.
So exciting for you. Cheers for the under-dogs!
A great take on the theme Jacky. Yay for the underdogs doing themselves proud.
Not a football fan but am a fan of people who strive to beat the odds. Great story Jacky.
Great story, a bit of victory to soften the blow of the defeat. Yay for the underdogs!
Great story, and that last photo shows the glory of it perfectly. It's not always the win that matters the most.
Not surprisingly, I love your story!!! I was so sad to see some of the other "little" clubs go down in the third round.
