Palma on foot

Palma is a small city.....perfect for walking round......and in the 2 days we spent there we certainly did a lot of walking.
We started with the magnificent cathedral......which we've seen before........and I absolutely love.
The building of the cathedral was begun in 1229 by Jaume 1......but was added to for the next 4 centuries........ending up a gothic masterpiece. It was built to be seen from the sea [and is only a minute's walk from the sea]......a symbol of Christian might to deter any would be invaders. Jaume apparently promised God to build a church 'to reach the sky' if his invasion was successful.......and he certainly achieved that.
The cathedral can be seen from many parts of the city.....but is actually built in the old Moorish part and is surrounded by narrow streets of ancient buildings......which are very easy to become lost in!!!! Luckily the cathedral is a good landmark!!

We did go inside.........but you are not really supposed to take photos........though everyone was......so only a couple of very poor ones
Parts of the interior were designed by Gaudi in the last century.
We then set off to visit some museums and the modern art gallery.

It's just amazing to me that a small city would have such a magnificent cathedral. It's stunning, and your photos are wonderful.
