Displaying Mail Art-August's Monthly Make

Over the past 2 years I've loved being part of Ginger's Mail Art Exchange.
Sending and receiving mail from all over the world......but what to do with it all......keep it in a drawer......put it in an album.....my favoured option was to somehow display it......but I wasn't sure how.
But then I saw a display board in a magazine......and I knew what I wanted to do......just needed to collect the parts.
Starting with this one.......
world map gift wrap
Then I saw this cork board at a boot sale
The plain wood was painted with sand and green patina paints....a bit of gold metallic rub on round the edges and a coat of crackle glaze.
I pinned the map on......and added some of the stamps I've been keeping.......I'm not sure I like the effect of the stamps.....but,sort of, want them on there anyway!!
I covered some flat head drawing pins with map paper and glossy accents so that mail art could be put on temporarily, rather than permanently.
I've added some mail art with the pins.......so it can be interactive and ever changing......I've got envelopes that will go on as well......and I thought at christmas......cards can go on it.
Much better than keeping it all in a drawer, don't you think?
And I somehow didn't manage a monthly make for July.....I'm hoping it's the only month I miss this year......so this is for August!!

This looks brilliant. I think the stamps work when you get the mail art on. Wish I had some spare wall space :0)

This is such a great idea, Jacky! I have a basket on my desk that is packed with all the mail I've received from my blog friends - each one a treasure to me. I love that you have the map of the world as your backdrop. This is just so clever!

This is glorious, I love it!!!! Like you I wasn't crazy about the stamps at first but they so work once the "art" is up and I love how you covered the pin heads with map :)

That is so clever! I love the idea of refreshing it and changing it up, too - I keep all my treasured received mail in a box, but I might just be getting some of it out now to start my own display, thank you for the idea!

I love how you've put this together...how lovely to see the art & also which part of the world it came from! I agree that the stamps fit in well once some items were pinned on...love it!! :D

What a great idea! Makes me want to send you something to add to the board. As for the stamps, I think I might create groupings, rather than single stamps. Maybe you could add 2-3 more by each one and see if you like the effect better?

That's a great idea Jacky! As you say, such a waste to put them in a drawer.
