Storytelling Sunday-a Street Party

This weekend sees the Queen's Diamond Jubilee......only the second British monarch to reign for 60 years.......there's celebrations everywhere in the UK.......and yesterday our small cul-de-sac of 42 houses held a street party.
The diary of a Street Party
11a.m. Putting up bunting and flags....setting up tables and chairs

1p.m. The party begins......the food arrives.

1.30p.m. The children parade in their finery for a group photo.
2p.m. The eating begins
3p.m. Games and crafts for the children continue all afternoon

5.30 The hot food starts arriving.....the barbeques are lit.
6.30p.m. Everyone eats......chats.....listens to music.....and eats some more til the party finishes at 8p.m. and the clearing up is done just before the rain starts......and everyone agrees what a success it has been.....and start planning for another street event.
This is my story for Sian's Storytelling Sunday.....see more stories here.

I love the sense of community that comes with a street party, we have one every year at Christmas.
Have a great weekend Jacky!

WOW! What a fabulous day it looked too. You must have great neighbours, Jacky. The kids looked like proper kids - not a mobile phone in sight!!! SO GLAD to hear you were all cleared away before the rain too. The strawberry/blueberry union flag dessert looked fantastic.

Happy Sunday - bet you're glad you held yours yesterday!

I recognise a good food cake inspiration there. Glad you had such a great day. Ours is on the village green on Tuesday. Hope the weather improves. It's a bit cold up north :0)

Love the Union Jack cake! You certainly chose the right day for your street party - good old British weather eh?! Looks like you all had a great time. What's the next excuse for a get together?!

That Union Jack cake looks brilliant. I love the fact that the colours are made with fruit and not E numbers!
Your celebrations look very similar to the street party I remember for the Silver Jubilee. Happy days :o)

This looks like so much fun! What a fabulous cake! Our neighborhood picnic was cancelled on Sunday because of rain. We're hoping for a better day this coming Sunday.

What a lovely looking neighborhood! And so many young children. Our neighborhood has "grown up" and there are very few little ones. A few high school age kids left, but a whole bunch of kids who have grown up and moved out. And for some reason, we never really established street parties. Wish we did!
