Pretty Paper Party 3- choosing your papers

Prompt 3 in this class takes me way out of my comfort zone.......Shimelle suggests choosing a colour palette......then choosing 10-12 patterned papers in that palette......basically building up your own kit.....but without knowing what photos you're going to use.
I NEVER EVER choose papers first....I always choose the photos first and then find papers to match....occasionally I have a photo with really clashing colours......change it to black and white....and then I can choose any colour papers I want.......but this is rare.
Even worse......she suggests making up the pages before you choose the photos......this is a step too far for me this early in the class......so I'm starting gently with the colour palette!!!!!
Not being great at choosing colour palettes either......I spent an enjoyable hour on Design Seeds browsing theirs.....and came up with this one.
Now this was a little bit of a cheat........I'm hoping to get some of my holiday photos scrapped during this class.......and there must be green ones among them!!!!!!
Sooooo.........to choosing the papers........which took me ages......I'm definately lacking in brown patterned papers........and there's slightly more than 12.....the colours are also brighter than they look in the photos.
Shimelle only specified patterned papers.......but I'm afraid I had to add some plains as well!!
And then a look through my stash threw up some embellishments, alphabets, journaling boxes and words.......that may or may not be used.....but gives me a kit as a jumping off point.
I'm all ready to start scrapping........please may I choose the photos now??

I love the color palette you chose - great for anything in the autumn spectrum - nature & weather, halloween, thanksgiving... can't wait to see what you end up doing with your "kit".

oh yes, that colour palette is fabulous! Love autumn colours! Good luck with chopping into all those papers and finding photos to go with them! I've created 3 sets of papers and can't wait to have a go with them, maybe tomorrow.

The thought of choosing papers before the photos scares me silly!! Probably why I'm delaying completing this prompt until tomorrow!! :) can't wait to see you final layouts! x

This is a lovely colourway for this time of year - but like you, I would not be enjoying finding papers before photos!

That looks great, Jacky :) I've coped with finding papers first so far - but only because I had 300 photos printed last week so I can be pretty confident of matching any paper combination I come up with!!

I'm with you too Jacky inasmuch as my photo is usually my starting point!! So well done you on pulling together such a great kit to work with...I'll be watching to see if you opt for colour or B&W photo's LOL!!! :)

LOL! Great post! I liked that prompt of Shimelle's. It reminds me of what the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog does every month. It's a lot of fun, and I find it very do-able, but you know I'm very comfortabl with making blank pages . . .

I was also going to mention the Counterfeit Kit Challenge too. I've found it so useful in so many ways. I'm totally comfortable with putting together my own selections now - but at first it was really hard!

I still swoon at some of the kits on sale though!

I think it's really hard to choose papers without the photos in mind. For today's prompt, I definitely had the photo chosen first and then hunted for the appropriate dotted and striped papers. Hopefully I'll have it posted tomorrow. I'm too tired to upload and edit the photo tonight.

No way!!!! 10-12 papers for the one page ... or did I read that incorrectly?
My approach is very similar to your Jacky, well done with what you have achieved though :-)

Amy....according to Shimelle...this should make about 7 pages.

That's a very pretty colour palette - just the kind of thing I love.

I work the other way round a lot - I pick a paper I love and then think of a story to go with it. It's interesting to read abut different approaches

I want to try this too - I loved the Stash Diving video. But, like you, I always choose my photos first so it's a little daunting.
