Blogging the mundane....or maybe not!!!!!!!

Yesterday in BFS Shimelle suggested blogging the mundane....the ordinary....the everyday......and what can be more mundane than a supermarket car park.....you drive in....get your shopping....return to your car....often in a daze.....the most interesting thing you're likely to see is when a c**p carrier bag breaks and someone's shopping hits the ground....oh, and I did once see a car back into a bollard!!! Life doesn't get much more mundane than going to the supermarket.

But what happened in our supermarket car park on Wednesday evening was far from mundane.......it was extraordinary.......and almost unbelievable.
DD2 returned from the gym saying
"there's something going on in town.......the road's cordoned off...and there's police and ambulances"
"Oh no" I said "another car crash"
In the morning DD grabbed me
"It wasn't a car crash....it was a shooting at Morrisons"
"WHAT!!!!! A SHOOTING!!!!! IN MORRISONS CAR PARK!!!!!"
Actually it wasn't a single shooting.....6 people got shot with an air rifle over the space of an hour and a half.......by the time DD passed........the whole area was cordoned off by the armed response team [British policemen do not carry guns, and have to call for back-up from an armed response unit]

The teenage perpetrators were caught.......they had spent over an hour randomly shooting at supermarket shoppers from an upstairs window opposite the car park......the police weren't called til a boy was shot in the neck and seriously injured........ they were lucky the police didn't shoot them!!!! What is the world coming to when that is some teenagers' idea of fun!!
A supermarket car park....mundane.....maybe not!!!!!

Never really thought of the supermarket as being a particularly dangerous place but I may have to review that!

I did once post as a friday funny what some wag had gotten up to in the supermarket parking lot once - with his pound coin he managed to arrange all of the trolleys he could find . . . in to a giant circle in the parking lot!! Boy he must have been REALLY bored!

Happy Friday and have a great weekend Jacky

ohmygoodness, how horrible! I understand teens getting bored but have never understood when that translates to hurting others or destroying property without a care at all. Surprised the police weren't called sooner :/

Omigosh, that's scary! I was just reading this morning in our local paper about some teenagers shooting at passers by with an air-rifle, again out of an upstairs window - luckily no-one was badly hurt and the police got onto it very promptly, but it's still frightening to think something like that could happen 'for fun' just round the corner. Is the lad who got seriously injured doing OK?

Is this the new pastime??/ Flip me, its going to be safer shopping online, and that really will be mundane lol. Take care over that Jacky;)

Sometimes I really don't understand people. Very sad, and I'm glad no one was hurt more seriously. Don't even get me started on the crazy gun culture here in the States . . .

Goodness, that's far from mundane! Glad to hear the boy is doing ok but I agree with you, what is it coming to if that's their idea of fun!!

Oh my! That is a bit of excitement isn't it? I hope those kids are punished. They could have seriously hurt someone.

Can I ask, what is a bollard?

Wow... I never could imagine something like that happening... but of course it does. Glad everyone was okay. Interesting how you were going to blog about how mundane it is, and then it totally surprises you!

Oer, even living here I've never heard of a scary supermarket story like that before! I'm very glad you weren't caught up in that.

Not mundane - just frightening. We have scenes like that all too often here (not in my town, particularly, but in the US in general). I'm all for individual rights, but I also think EVERY gun should be registered and owners should have to be licensed to show that they know how to use them and understand safety. If they weren't so easy to get and own, maybe it wouldn't be such an issue.

Jacky, what a nightmare! so glad you weren't there.

gosh that is a little frightening! My dad was shot with an air pistol type gun years ago but luckily was fine apart from a few bruises, unfortunately i think gun crime has increased. Hope things are now improved at Morrisons!

Wow, not mundane! You are right, the teenagers could have so easily been shot by the police - how stupid of them. Makes for an interesting blog post though lol!

Oh my! Definitely not a mundane day at the supermarket! Just dropping by from BFS. :D

Yikes! It makes me wonder what is going on in the heads of some kids, I think that this year alone, Mother Nature has caused enough destruction without humans trying take out humans for fun!

Gun laws are really strict here so this sort of thing is pretty rare - thank goodness, but we have the occasional morons who think throwing rocks from freeway overpasses is some sort of hilarious passtime.

You have just reminded me of when I was 'shot at' about 20 years ago! I was walking through the housing estate where I lived on my way to work at the local petrol station. I suddenly heard a high pitched wooshing sound & a 'ping' and at the same time I saw lad in one of the rear gardens with a long gun in his hands. I carried on walking & suddenly put 2 & 2 together! Within seconds my legs began to shake as I realised the 'ping' was a small bullet hitting a metal garage door :(
I regret not reporting it to the police but to be honest I think I was in shock!!

It's sad to hear of these things, but like some of the ladies from the US mentioned, we have issues with teens and guns regularly here in Canada and although we have a gun registry, it doesn't seem to help. Just from reading Amy's comment, one of the more unfortunate recollections I have is a group of teenagers that picked up a very large boulder from someone's backyard and threw it off an overpass and it landed in the lap of a school bus driver killing him... It took 3 years before the kids came forward, troubled with guilt.

Man that is horrible! I have asked that same question repeatedly. I think our kids have too much time on their hands!

Unbelievable - I hope that the police throw the book at them!

I expect you're happy that your trips to Morrisons are mundane if that's the alternative!

Oh my gosh that is really scary, but probably tops the mundane story of the day at BFS! Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a lovely comment. Your blog is lovely too; I especially like the housework is evil pictures. Could not agree more!

OMG. Why weren't the police called earlier?

Oh my goodness, that's awful! It shocks me that some teenagers would even have the courage to do something as horrible as that.
