What do you want for christmas??

DS never asks us what we want for christmas......he usually buys chocolates or toiletries...... very nice.....but we tend to get too many of them at christmas.
This year he spoke to OH
DS "what does mum want for for xmas?"
OH "some Fiskars embroidery scissors"
[I do have some embroidery scissors.......just not very good ones.......I can't justify buying new ones when I have some....but I can certainly justify asking for a pair for xmas!!]
DS was singularly unimpressed
"scissors.....what kind of present is that??????"
Actually....exactly the kind of present I want,son.
Later....he asked me
DS "what does dad want for xmas?"
ME "a truckers atlas of Europe"
DS "WHAT......he's as bad as you.....that's not a proper present!!!!"
Actually.....it is.......it's exactly the present he wants.
And......despite DS being unimpressed.......it seems that we will both be getting at least one present that is exactly what we want this year!!

i love these kind of presents I always ask people what they would like and the in laws have done an uninspiring "use your imagination" - ok momma-in-law I have and I have come up with alcohol, chocolates and a dressing gown, a bit like last years alcohol, chocolates and PJs! Would much rather her say "an egg timer" or "embroidery scissors" !!! Good on your DS this year! My mum and husband asked what i wanted "scrapbooking stuff and nothing else" so thats what I am getting =)

It is always nice to get those gifts that we want but can't justify buying for ourselves. I give the family a fairly detailed list. And if I'm lucky, one or two people actually buy from the list. The others seem pleased as punch to go "off list" which means I end up with several tops I could have happily done without!

This is so cute, Jacky! You should have seen the look on my hubby's face last year when I asked for a long-reach stapler. :o) Got it. Hope Santa comes through on the scissors for you. I think you deserve it!!! xo

Well a long reach stapler and embroidery scissors sound normal to me! Earlier this year I overheard a fellow rambler telling another walker that her husband had bought her an axe for her birthday. There is probably some group of people out there where having an axe for your birthday sounds normal, I guess (?!?!?!).

We've started exchanging lists for Christmas and birthdays. That way everyone gets something they really want, and usually there's a surprise there somewhere. Sarah showed me how to add anything I saw online to my Amazon Wish List--even things Amazon doesn't sell--which makes it very easy. I've done a lot of internet shopping the last two years.

We use Elfster - an online gift exchange where each family member makes a list of items they would like. It's great!

We have a yahoo group where we post what we want - complete with links - so that we get something we want.

*Sigh*.. I wish!! Whenever I say I really want/need scrapbooking stuff, I get a roll of the eyes and a 'surely you have MORE than enough of that already?!! Looks like I'll be having clothes and toiletries then.. or (heaven forbid) NEXT vouchers..

It's always nice to get exactly what you want! But I always fall into the trap of thinking I know better than people do themselves as to what they want. :)

high treason indeed! i just saw your confession about the lack of Harry Potter in your life!!!!! You will not regret asking Santa for those I promise!!! xoxo

Someone did that when I asked for vouchers from sarahs cards for my birthday, but I really wanted to buy some new albums! :)
