Christmas Club- Do you believe in Santa??

This is my post for Sian's Christmas Club......read all of them here.
I don't know what it says about me that I tend to remember the disasters........like the year DS was 9 and decided he didn't really believe in Santa anymore.......and wasn't going to go to sleep.......so that he could see whether there actually was a real one!!!!
Us    "if you don't go to sleep, Santa won't fill your stocking"
DS   "he's probably not real, I think you leave the presents"
DD1 "don't be silly, course there's a Santa"
DS   "no there's not, I'm going to watch all night for him"
Us   "he only comes to children who are asleep"
DS   "well, I'm not going to sleep"
And he didn't.......we checked at 11......and 12.....and 1......and always saw the whites of his eyes!!!!
At 2am.........OH came up with a plan.......fill the girls' stockings..........set alarm for 5am........go to bed.......and at least get some sleep......before creeping in to fill his.
We fell asleep.......I'm not sure for how long........before the door crashed open.......and a crying, hysterical child rushed in.........managing to blurt out
"Santa's been and he's filled the girls' stockings and he's left me NOTHING"
before dissolving into wails!!!!!!!!!!!!
We did manage to calm him down, persuade him Santa would return [which, of course, he did] and get him back to sleep.
He still thoroughly enjoyed his Christmas Day.......but was in bed asleep by 6pm.
There's a lesson in here somewhere......just not quite sure what it is!!!!!!

It's kind of crazy the lengths we will go to as parents to keep the magic alive for our little ones! My oldest was questioning already at 6 or 7 - you can't pull the wool over her eyes! So I actually purchased some red velvet fabric, tore off a tiny bit, and stuck it in the door that dear Santa would have to come through. I think she bought it for about half a day...

I love this story Jacky. When we stopped believing we didn't get a stocking. I remember the year I was torn between wanting a stocking and wanting to be grown up! :)

Fantastic story!!! It reads like a screenplay. I think the lesson is, Santa only comes for sleeping children who still believe. LOL!

Lovely story - this really made me laugh! I can remember those days of trying to stay awake long enough to fill the stockings!

Fantastic story! It has ups and downs and a happy ending - I love it. I can just imagine you getting more and more desperate every time you went in to check the non-sleeper, I was laughing in sympathy. Thank you for Christmas Clubbing this one today :)

haha, I shouldn't laugh really. It's so upsetting as a kid. I once opened a present the wrong way around and all I could see was the imprint of the present I should have got in the polystyrene. The present was on the other side but I was distraught, thinking I'd been naughty and Father Christmas had made my presents disappear and just left the packaging x

What a lovely story - it just goes to show that even 'big boys' believe in Santa really.

Loved your story. I suppose they all believe if it means they'll get presents. Heck, if it got me a great present, I would believe!

I'm late in getting to read this but I love it and it did make me laugh. What a determined little boy he was and what a shock he must have got to see his sisters stockings full and his not. Did he go to sleep the following year? ;o) xx
