A Neapolitan Dream!!!!

Or not....as the case may be......we have already visited Pompeii and Sorrento...... both amazing places......so our choice was to take a boat trip to Capri......or have a wander round Naples itself.
We chose the second option......sadly, not to be particularly recommended.
Like the rest of Italy.....Naples is full of beautiful old buildings.....but here they seemed rather decaying and unloved.

Naples claims to have invented the modern pizza.........as a delicacy for Queen Margherita when she visited the city in 1889......using red, white and green to represent the Italian flag.......I think they must also have invented graffiti......I've never seen so much in my life......on every available surface....and definately not in the 'Banksy' style!!!!

Rather sad to see it all over statues .....and although I'm not a particularly religious person.......was horrified to see it all over churches as well........especially in a city that had more shops selling religious artifacts than anywhere I've ever been!!!!!
Actually.......wandering the narrow shopping streets was fascinating......and virtually every type of seller and shop you could imagine was there.......and we did manage to have a delicious ice cream.......even if it did cost a small fortune!!

But I don't think Naples is a city we'll return to.

Always good to have a travellers opinion. When we stopped off in Naples on our way to Sorrento (lovely isn't it btw) we were warned against walking around - and that was 20 years ago!! Smashing piccies btw.

What a pity this city has not been cared for the same way as other areas of Italy. You have some great shots though Jacky :-)

That's a shame...SO very sad about the graffiti. Doesn't that just make you so mad? ugh!

You did get some good photos though!

We had similar feelings about Naples. We didn't spend much time there (we combined it with a half-day trip to Pompeii) and a couple of hours was enough, really. It was also the scariest place to cross roads in EVER!!

How sad what someone can do with a can of spray paint. Again, I don't think I'd like all those narrow streets.

Yes, when we were there lots of folk were too scared to get off the boat - we did a guided walking tour and ended up at a pizza restauarant with a cookery demo. Your photos are so evocative.

Isn't it such a shame when that happens to a place Jacky. Love the photos and I am sure the ice cream made at least one good memory.

Thanks for the tip - there's so many places in Italy we want to visit, so there's not need to put Naples on the list.

How sad, especially all the graffiti on such beautiful old buildings and statues.
