The City of Gaudi

We loved Barcelona......the morning spent on a whistle stop tour of Gaudi's city masterpieces....the afternoon wandering through the shops and outdoor markets on Las Ramblas......a city we definately want to return to....one day is not enough.

Our first stop was at Park Guell....a beautiful inner city park designed by Gaudi.....I could have easily spent the whole day there.

Full of Gaudi's delightful, quirky art.........and his mosaics which I just love.
From here we went to the Sagrada Cathedral.....designed by Gaudi in 1883.......he devoted the last 15 years of his life entirely to this project........and still not finished today.......but apparently the continuing construction is part of it's attraction!!!!! Certainly one of the most stunning buildings I have ever seen.
We then spent an enjoyable afternoon wandering down Las Ramblas going into shops, looking at the open air art market......and watching some of the artists at work.

We went to Barcelona 5 years ago for a long weekend and still didn't get to see everything. Such a great city. Las Ramblas is just so fascinating with all the street artists and stalls - not to mention all those tapas bars! You certainly have taken an amazing amount of photos on your trips, however many memory cards did you get through?! Fantastic memories though, thanks for sharing.

Looks like you made the most of every moment of your trip Jacky and your photo's again are superb and bring back fond memories for me of when we went there years ago. It really is the most fascinating city and I loved every minute of our trip. We have some of the same photo's LOL. The Sagrada Familia has changed a little since we were there, it's amazing I agree and we sat in the little park across the road with a drink and just stared at it for ages before we went in............I must make a book of my photo's :D. One of the architects overseeing the completion of the cathedral is an Australian and he was on the radio just a week or so ago talking about the expected date of completion ..... not too far away now as the Pope is booked for the official blessing - however he did say that the final finish date for the externals could still be a number of years away. It certainly looks like a magnificent place!

I have to agree with the other comments and say your photography classes have definitely been worthwhile - this is another set of really great pictures. It's making me want to go back too.

The photos are stunning. I could spend all day looking at the one with the arches. Your photos are as wonderful as your cards.

You had better weather in Barcelona than we did! You're right, 1 day is nowhere near enough. Gaudi's work is sensational and unique, huh? xx
