Depth of field and a bit of exposure!

This week in LYPLYP Shimelle has been asking us to use different settings on our cameras....something that always causes me....and my little 'point and shoot'.....to go into panic mode.......but I have had a go......with the fairly limited options available.
Yesterday was 'depth of field' or blurring the photo background.......I tried a few of the limited aperture changes.....but the best result definately came using macro mode.
This one of the overgrown clematis outside our back door was my favourite.....mainly bescause I love that you can see the rain droplets.
Today's prompt was about changing the exposure level while taking pictures of the sky......preferably on a sunny day.......thanks Shimelle.......after 3 weeks of nothing but sun.....we now have rain!! But there were still some interesting effects.

The first one was underexposed.

                                                         This one was on auto.
This one was overexposed.......very overexposed I think!!!!

Quite similar effects on the next three as well
After I'd got over my initial panic.....I quite enjoyed playing around with the camera......and can see that even on my camera.........I can get quite a few different effects!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol - you've pretty much described my feelings here - that my camera had a fairly limited range of settings, but that I could actually get some interesting effects after all! (And that auto with macro setting works best for depth of field shots...) x

Shimelle's really getting us to experiment isn't she? How many of us would normally photograph grey skies?!
Lovely raindrop photo!

Your depth of field experiment worked really well. I always love to turn bright days in to sunsets myself - just a little quirk of mine!!!

I was also amazed at what my little P&S camera can do. I actually like your overexposed shots. Looks like thunderstorm clouds. The clematis shot was interesting because of the rain drops. Amazing what the camera sees that sometimes our eyes do not. I am enjoying Shimelle's class very much.

The clematis photo is wonderful. I don't seem to have much luck with water droplets with either of my cameras. Today's prompt would be a good one for it so I'll try again if I manage to get outside at the right time. You did get a lot of great effects. I love my SLR, but take more than half my photos with my point and shoot. All the photos from our last two trips were taken with the P&S. It's just so much easier to carry with me.

Love the clematis photo! I learned that my p&s can really do a lot if I take a moment to turn the dials. That was the camera I used for most of my "Picture Spring" photos. Now I'm trying to learn my DSLR and the complexity of it makes me want my P&S back!!!

That macro shot really works :) It's bucketing here and I had thought that if I took a good sky picture I could make a new blog header. Not a chance!

It is amazing what I've learned so far with Shimelle's prompts! I had good fun today laying on the floor and have a long post set for tomorrow on the exposure lesson.
Love the explanation of what you did.
