Photography Classes

If you visit my blog regularly..........or even occasionally.........you'll probably have noticed I'm a pretty c**p photographer.........the colours of projects on my blog are rarely true likenesses...........and photos often blurry........the LO above shows that I wasn't any better with a 35m camera....... [though I do love the toothless laugh of little DD2 in the middle photo!!!].
I really......really.......want to improve my photography skills........I recently joined an online  'Getting the most from your point and shoot camera' course.......and I have learned some new camera skills from it [like manually switching off the flash on a camera that is under the misguided impression it needs it in virtually every photo].........but I think the main thing I learned was........an online photography class is not the best thing for me.........I need a 'real' teacher....who can show me things....I can ask questions of.......can practise with etc.
I had more or less resigned myself to signing up for a course at my local college.......no doubt costing a fair amount of money.......probably in the autumn.
BUT.......BUT........BUT........I was reading my local paper this week.......when I saw an advert.......free improve your maths classes, free improve your English classes, free DIGITAL CAMERA classes.........yes,you read that right......FREE........on an afternoon I'm not working.........a 5 week course.....15 hours in total.......when I'd picked myself off the floor.....I signed up at the speed of light.
The classes begin next Thursday......so maybe.......just maybe.......you may see an improvement in my photographs....not promising anything,of course.

What a great opportunity Jacky! And Tracy is right, your photos look fine here on the blog .... you will feel better knowing more about your camera and how to get good shots of your cards and layouts. I'm learning that for the most part it really is practise and then finding time to practise - have fun next week .... perhaps your could do a review of the course? And pass on any great tips of course ;-)

Hi Jacky..that sounds amazing! You will have a great time...I specialised in Photography for 2 years after my Foundation course at Art College...I just love cameras and their gadgets!
I'm so impressed that you have managed to do all your photos of your children into new scrap pages!
They look fantastic!
My NVQ file is with my assessor and being gone through at the college now! Not sure what to do with myself now...guess I should be looking for a job....mmm...perhaps after the summer?

Jacky, you lucky thing! That sounds like a fantastic way to learn. I'm starting to wonder if any of our local colleges do anything similar..thanks for the idea. I think what I learnt from that class is that, like anything else, if you want to get really good you need to do a lot of practising.

Ooh, lucky you! :-) I'm thinking of asking for a photography course for my birthday, there's a good one-day course held locally. I think your photos are better than you think they are, but I'm also all for improving your skills whenever possible, so good for you!

oohhhh Jackie! Lucky you! I need a class to learn to use my digital rebel. I'm mostly only playing with my point & shoot. I'm like you - I need hands on - I need someone to SHOW me!

Jacky, how lucky for you to find such a class! I am now at the point where I say that's how I wanted the photo to look--when anyone asks, "what were you thinking?" I'm also getting class overload. After I finish my restoring old photos class with Jessica Sprague, I think I'll take a break for a while. You have fun with your digital camera class, and drop us a few hints now and then on how to improve our photos.

I'm sure you will enjoy the course and will benefit from it - though there doesn't seem to be a whole lot wrong with your technique right now but I look forward to noticing the improvement!! and FREE too which is even better.

First of all, you're a much better photographer than you give yourself credit for. But, wow, free??? I can't wait to hear about it.
