Scrapping in Retrospect

I have boxes of old photos.......I don't mean vintage, though I do have some of those......I mean photos of my kids when young......in photo boxes, sorted by year, the date written on them, sometimes the when and where as well.
I wish I had scrapbooked when they were young.......I love the pages of Alie Edwards and Amy who scrapbook everyday life and its stories so well.......when you scrap in retrospect it is hard to do it like that as many of the stories are long since forgotten.......only very memorable ones sticking in your mind.
Some scrappers are only interested in scrapping the present.....but I want to scrap those old photos......I want them to be on lovely decorative pages.
Some scrappers think pages without journaling are meaningless........but I think sometimes pictures can give a feel of the time......and the person......even when there is no particular story to tell.
This page is DD1 aged 2/3.........they are all one off photos.......only one has a story........I will add a little journaling about it.
The story??_____Yes,it is wine she's drinking.....we were at a garden party......turned round and she'd picked up someone's wine glass.......quickly snapped a pic before grabbing it from her........she does still like a glass or two of wine though!!
To me.....this is still a meaningful page.

I think you're right..older photos deserve a good home too. And they do look good when you can give them a bit of atmosphere with some pp and embellishment like you've done here. I love older photos!

It's a lovely page.. and definitely worth scrapping the old photos, even if you can't remember any particular stories that go with them! Today I came across a half-made mini-book from two years ago.. the journaling will be sparse but I'm determined to finish it - while I still have some of the details in my mind!

It's a beautiful page and even without journaling captures a bit of your daughter's personality at that moment in time.

I did Library of Memories a couple of years ago. I got all my old photos into storage albums and started looking through them and pulling out the ones to scrap. My kids have also enjoyed it as they will look through them and pull out ones that they like. I will admit the digital age is killing me, I so need to print them out regularlly.

Brilliant shot with the wine glass, a great reason to create such a lovely page too :)

It's a great page :-) I love that scrapbookers grab a camera first and then deal with the 'thing' lol!

A great page Jacky! Yes, I'm so glad I am scrappoing now while the kids are still small - I find retrospective scrapping extremely difficult, it must be my small attention span I'm sure! I agree that not all pages need a alot of journaling, name age and date is just fine .... just having a record of who we are and what we looked like is fantastic. She is going to love these - I bet she loves seeing what she was like!

Food for thought. I have boxes full of photos from when the children were younger as well. Odd thing is, I can do present time LO with no journalling and not worry, but for some reason if I go for older photos it feels as if I should journal. Maybe I need to take the plunge and do more of the older photos.

Jacky, totally agree you should scrap all those older photos. They are part of your life and the memories are precious. Maybe you won't have a story for each one but that doesn't really matter. Just remember to record the dates and names.

I also have piles of photos of my kids when they are younger. I've scrapped some of them, but I have a lot more to go. Not all of them have a story, but they are, nonetheless, important photos. Your layout is great.
