Last year I posted a story about DD2's frog phobia.....caused by her apparently being 'attacked' by 2 of them.....this week she has some more wildlife to add to her phobia list.
[google images]
One evening she and her boyfriend were walking their dog when they heard a growl from the bushes......the dog growled back.....please bear in mind that the dog is a chihuahua....and about 12 inches square [or the size of a large rat according to OH]......but must have a ferocious growl.....as three badgers burst from the bushes straight at them.....DD and BF ran as fast as they could with the badgers on their tail......til DD fell over heavily and dropped the dog's lead......she [bless her] yelled "Don't worry about me,save the dog"!!!!!
A badger grabbed her shoe......and then ran off....thank goodness.
Poor DD was cut and scraped and bruised [and terrified].....and by Thursday one large scrape on her hand looked particularly nasty.....a trip to the doctor resulted in antibiotics and anti-inflammatories....and a suggestion she visited A & E.
A 4 hour visit to A & E resulted in xrays.......that showed a fractured wrist......to go with the infected hand!!
You may be pleased to hear....the instigator of all the trouble [the dog] legged it home.....and has shown no ill effects at all!!!!!!!!
DD2 however......is fast adding to her list of wildlife phobias......and has decided that the said dog will have to settle for the garden at night from now on!!!

Oh my goodness, no wonder she is developing phobias about wildlife! Poor thing, I do hope she is soon fully healed.
I have a kind of fear of cats after finding one on my doorstep years ago. I stepped forward to put my key in the lock and said 'shoo' or something like that and the evil creature attacked me - on my own doorstep! I ended up at A&E having tetanus shots and being patched up as it bit straight into the muscle - boy was there a lot of blood!
Many thanks for sharing this story Jacky x
I never realised badgers were so aggressive & no wonder your daughter has a phobia of them after that!
I remember the frog story! Blimey, I've always been a bit wary of badgers. Big and scary. Now I know to run a mile..that's some hair raising story!!
Crikey, I wouldn't have thought that would happen, poor girl. I would definitely be paranoid!
wow I have always loved badgers but would be seriously worried if that happened to me .... I wish her a speedy recovery xxx
Blimey Jacky, that could have been nasty (judging from those teeth in the photo) - hope your DD's hand and wrist heals well

Crikey, that does sound a scary encounter! I can only imagine the badgers had young or something, they are usually very shy and secretive animals. They are quite big though, fully grown, so I can imagine your daughter would have been pretty shaken. Sorry to hear about her wrist and other scrapes. Please wish her a speedy recovery -I will have more respect for badgers in future and give them a wide birth if I get too close!
Oh the poor girl! I hope she is soon feeling better.
Poor things! Hope she has recovered soon.
Oh my goodness, what a dangerous walk. I do hope she's healing well.
Oh WOW! That was a terrifying walk! No wonder she doesn't like wildlife. I hope that she heals quickly.
First of all, encountering a badger completely freaks me out. But then when you mentioned it took her shoe, that's kind of funny! Plus, that small of a dog could hardly act as a guard dog!! Thank goodness the badger went for the shoe instead of the dog!
How funny - to be chased by badgers. Your poor DD must have really taken a tumble to do so much damage. Hope she is well on the way to recovery.
I've always wanted to see a badger, not so sure now!
Oh gosh, poor thing! I hope she is better soon! My Sis has one of those dogs and he's like her shaddow! Such a cute little thing.
Have a great week.

Oh your poor daughter! Badgers have suddenly gone right down my list of 'poor things, hunted and /or run over....." I do hope the anti b's work and that she recovers quickly. What an amazing story.
Oh the poor girl! I do wish her a speedy recovery! I will be vary wary of badgers now!
On a different note Jacky - when I did the Draw for Pass the Book - you came out as the lucky recipient - please contact me at jennie.hall.iom at gmail.com with your address so I can post it on to you. I do hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Jennie xx
I didn't realise that badgers could be so ferocious!...hope DD is recovering!...iI've just had a lovely catch up, Jacky..it seems to be ages since I've stopped by-sorry about that!

Badgers ate my cousins chicken coop. We have the same phobia of badgers and think it is very sensible!
Oh my word, I had no idea badgers were so scary. I hope her hand gets better soon.
I had no idea that badgers would do that. I wonder if they had young with them. Still, doesn't make it any better for your poor daughter
Wow! Attacked by badgers! I would never have thought something like that could happen. Our only concern here is with the dogs having a run-in with a skunk - LOL!

I don't anyone one bit for developing a badger phobia - he certainly doesn't remind me of the more civilized one from Wind in the Willows.
Wow, what a story, I hope her wrist and hand heals quickly x
