A Happy Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday......many thanks to those of you who sent me cards or left me a Facebook message....I had a quiet, but enjoyable day.....and a rather louder evening.....pizzas,garlic bread, birthday cake and large quantities of alcohol......shared with family and a few friends.
I know it was my birthday because.....there are very few other times that DD1 will be working in the kitchen!!
My family are clubbing together to buy me a sewing machine......I'll be researching one to buy over the next few weeks......I want to be able to quilt and free machine embroider......as well as ordinary stitching......any advice would be gratefully received.
But my 2 favourite presents received yesterday were....a little box....
from Little A.....decorated by her own fair hand
and a textile picture from my friend G
I find it difficult to take a decent photo of a framed picture.......and this does not do it justice.......but I love this piece of textile art.

What lovely gifts! My sewing machine is wonderful but very old so I'm no help with recommendations. Glad you had a great day!

It sounds like a good one. Handmade gifts are the best..bet once you get that machine on the go there'll be some lovely ones coming the other way now too!

Sorry, it's a somewhat belated "Happy Birthday!" from me.
My best advice would be to go and try some out if you can. Do you have a John Lewis or sewing shop nearby?
From personal experience, I would say you're much better off with a robust basic mechanical machine, than an all singing, all dancing electronic one!
The Janome 525 was a Which best buy recently and the machine used on the Sewing Bee. It's about £250, which might be more than you want to spend. John Lewis do their own machines which are made by Janome, I believe and get good reviews.

It sounds like you had a wonderful birthday! The textile picture is amazing, I'd love to be able to make art like that. Of course the box by Little A is a treasure too! x
