Paper Dolls....and Altered Alice

Reading Sian's post here reminded me how much I love paper dolls [I will definately be getting that book].........I had oodles of them as a child.....and played endlessly with them.I even recall having a tantrum at a party because someone else won a game and chose the paper doll set I wanted as a prize!!!! I soooooooo wish I had kept them.
I think they went seriously out of fashion for awhile.......I don't recall them when my DDs were young........and they never had any.......but they are around again now......though nowhere near as many as when I was a child.
I even saw this Kate and William one on Amazon............hmmm......not sure about this......but I'd probably have loved it as a child!!
I've also noticed lots of digi stores and Etsy shops are selling paper doll downloads.......they are really 'art dolls', of course.......not the real 'paper dolls' that you put clothes on with the little tabs.......but I think they're fun.......and I'm starting to use them in my crafting.......and the big advantage with digi is you can print them again and again.
I love the new Altered Alice blog and decided to join in their challenge this week using a paper doll.
I tried something a bit new for me.......a painted canvas collage.....I think the background is a bit more 'in your face' than I'd intended though.
The canvas was painted with acrylics and thickening medium.......with some Pearl Glimmer Mist spritzed on.....and a little bit of Glamour Dust.......Alice was made from a couple of Etsy paper doll downloads [here and here] mixed together........the flowers and birds were stamped and cut from decorative papers........the watering can and snail are wooden.......and I couldn't resist adding some gems.
The quote says 'Live is change.....Growth is optional......Choose wisely'......all rubber stamped and distressed.

Jacky, I can really see this piece as being quite 'Rinda-esque', you have done a great job, the quote is fantastic and the colours are vibrant and engaging!

We had paper dolls as kids too, not sure if I would jump at the Wills and Kate sort though?

Love, love, love this! I think the background is very mod-Alice, just like your doll.
And I really like the Will and Kate dolls! Very of the moment and retro at the same time.

I remember cutting them out of Twinkle every week and my mum telling me to glue the doll onto cereal packets to make it last longer.

Love the quote and collage and thanks for the memory your post evoked. I must go looking for some now! Wonder how much old Twinkle comics go for on ebay...Nancy the little nurse was my favourite.

I used to love paper dolls, too and made some of them myself. I really like your latest piece of art, and think the background is great. You are getting quite good at art journaling.

I can remember glueing the pages out of Twinkle and Bunty onto cereal packets to try and make them a bit sturdier! When I think now how easy it would be to just photocopy them over and over on the printer..

Your piece is fabulous Jacky. I can't wait to see what other paper doll art you are inspired to do now

Oh the memories of Bunty dolls! I loved them - best part of the comic. Really not sure about the William and Kate ones though ! Guess we will be seeing a lot of unusual momentos over the next few weeks.
This is a great layout, so different!

I used to love the dolls that came on the back page of Bunty when i was a child...but I'm not really a doll person now, paper or otherwise!! Mum-in-Law has a couple of decorative china dolls & they just freak me out!! However, I'm loving what you've done here! I especially like the toadstools!!

I LOVE paper dolls and always hve. I remember them being quite hard to get hold of when I was younger so my Nan and I spent the day cutting pictures of clothes out of the next catalogue to fit dolls we had made from card. I spent days playing with them x

Thanks so much for playing along with The Altered Alice! LOVE what you have created! The background is fab and oh, so Alice! Love your mixed paper doll figure. I loved paper dolls as a girl and used to draw a lot of my own clothes to put on them!!! Lovely memories!

What a great creation! I, too, loved paper dolls and had many of them. I haven't seen any in years, but I spent hours playing with them.
