Do you ever have an idea in your head......try to translate it onto paper....and fail dismally??? That happened with this card.......whatever I did didn't look how I imagined it.......I moved bits around......took bits off......put bits on.......but it never really looked right....and almost got thrown in the bin more than once!!!
I wanted 'grungy'........it certainly isn't.......and ended up taking longer than any of the cards I painstakingly colour in.......and I'm still not really happy with it.
This second one on the other hand.........made entirely with 2 pieces of graphic 45 paper and some rub ons......took minutes......and I far prefer it!!!
I wanted to make a card for my BIL.......who thinks he knows everything there is to know about cars....lucky that I don't often need male cards......I think they are not my thing!!!!
But this card definately fits Creative Inspirations 'plain and simple' challenge

Do I perceive Costco double sided papers on the first one? If not then they look absolutely IDENTICAL. Sorry but I like both!, but I think I agree that the second one just has the edge - especially if it wasn't as much hassle!

Oh Jacky, I so know what you mean! as I have just binned a card myself. Hours and hours trying to get it right too, but it just didn't work. All my cards turn out 'female' even when I try to make them 'male'!
Oh well, onwards and upwards.
Ta ra for now
Well I think they're both fabulous!! & I do so know where you're coming from...often I know what I want, but end up with something looking totally different!!
Now I like No 1 - I think it looks fab and is grunged! Its awful when you feel your creations dont live up to your expectations but sharing here in blogland is a great way to see that not all is lost!
A perfectly timed post for the Embracing Imperfection class I'm on! Not that I see anything wrong with card #1 to be honest, both are fab. Male cards are tough aren't they?
It happens to me alllll the time!!!! but I really don't know why you're not happy with it, I think it's awesome, really truly fantastic... a perfect male card. Love it xxx
To me the first card does have the "grunge" look down pretty well. I think what is off somehow (and probably what you were struggling with) is the balance of elements. But it is still a good card - worthy of giving out, rather than relegating to the trash. Love the second card though.
Both cards look great :O)
But I know how you feel and its always male cards I struggle with!
Yep, it happens to me all the time too - and I hate binning anything so instead I have a pile of "seconds" on the side of my desk. These both look like fab male cards to me
HI Jacky
I can't see anything wrong with your first card and it is very grungey and vintage but we are our own worse critics aren't we?
Isn't it strange when you have a card idea in your head and you get all the things together only to fiddle about for hours without success then make something else with no prep in about ten minutes and love it!!! There is a lesson in there somewhere...however I never learn...xxx
Know the feeling but really I don't its justified. These cards are both brilliant, very male like. I used your little recipe for the semolina biscuits and everyone loved them:) Thanks for sharing the recipe.
I know EXACTLY what you mean Jacky - but, you know, if you didn't share your thoughts we would all have thought it was great - because it does look fantastic!
I feel your pain - especially about all the LOST TIME spent on these cards which don't come together! If it's any consolation, I think they are both fantastic.

I like them both and I think the first one is my favourite. They're perfect for those pesky mens cards.
luv

The first card is nice but it looks too planned for me, but I love the second card--it's more freestyle! No one makes better cards than you do.
I have to agree - the first one is ok, but I far prefer the second one.
I've been there too Jacky and also with male cards! I like both but I agree and prefer the 2nd one too :) xx
Fabulous cards Jacky. Love them both!
Have a lovely weekend,
Susan x
I agree, making cards for men has to be one of the most difficult things - after all, you can usually add a flower or two to a girly card to help with any faltering designs. Not sure most men would appreciate flowery cards do you?!
I think you did a great job with both of them but like the 2nd one best :)
I like both of them, but do prefer the second one - mainly cos I just love anythng Graphic45 xx
I agree, that without your comments, we would all have liked both cards a lot. Though I must admit, I do prefer #2. Masculine cards are definitely a challenge!
Lovely card! Thanks for joining us this week at Wednesday’s Creative Inspirations Challenge!
I know the feeling too Jacky and sometimes you just have to chalk it up I think :). Personally I think it's a great card for a man, I love the vintage card and I also love the second one, the colours are all gorgeous too. Hugs, Chris x
Fab cards Jacky!
And yes, I've been there often where my card definately does not live up to the one in my imagination!
I wish I could find one 'recipe' for mens' cards, it would save so much time and angst. I also find them much harder than female cards. These are both excellent cards for me,but I like the second one best. Neither should end up in the bin!
Too funny! I like both but the second is my fav too! Isn't it weird how that happens? Although I think both were a success, love your use of the G45 papers and the Happy Birthday is perfectly placed on the bottom card.
I love your fist card! I bet we have all been there with crafting and it can be so frustrating but I think your end result is great. I think we are our own worst critics and others prob just don't see what we do. You make amazing cards! xxx
I think they are both awesome. I suck at crafty card type art though, so I am also jealous that your 'bin' ready card is still far better than anything I could dream up. :)
