Just a card campaign

“If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery had bought just a card we’d still be open.”

When Sarah Hamilton heard this said by a shopkeeper who'd recently had to close her gallery she decided to start a campaign to encourage people to buy from independent sellers and to understand just how important each sale is......and so began the 'Just a card' campaign.
At the time I read about this campaign Sian announced her next 'pile of postcards' exchange.....where all the participants exchange 6 postcards with other bloggers from around the world....and I visited the 'Ladybird by Design' exhibition at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill......a wonderful exhibition to celebrate 100 years of Ladybird books......a real taste of nostalgia for anyone in the UK who was a child in the 60s/70s/80s
and like so many galleries the De La Warr has a little gift shop......and in there I bought some postcards especially made for the exhibition.....ready to send round the world.

Do you try and buy from independent sellers and galleries....even if it is 'just a card'?

Yes i do. I much prefer the smaller (usually local) independent businesses. The exhibition sounds good x

I try hard to support small local shops. It's nice to find something a little bit different, isn't it?

'Just a Card' is a great idea - I'll promote it on Hastings Battleaxe! We do visit a great many galleries, and generally buy a card...

Oh, these are perfect Jacky. I watched a programme about the Ladybird artwork recently and it was fascinating.

Yes, I'm a big postcard buyer whenever I visit anywhere. My favourite souvenir

Yes, I certainly try to. If we're having coffee out I avoid Costa/Starbucks and go for an independent coffee shop.

I love purchasing from independent sellers and keeping the money in our community whenever possible! Hopefully I'm raising my children to see the value in this as well.

I'm trying to buy locally these days and from smaller shops. Even online I'm trying to buy from the smaller online store

This is so true - I often go into little shops, admire their goods and then just walk out. I will give more thought to buying next time.

We don't really have much choice here.....all our local stores are independent ...no chain stores here! Xx Love your selection of cards! Xx

I used to love my Ladybird books. Not seen them for some time. I think mine went to my nieces and nephews.
Like you I always try and buy local before looking elsewhere, but living in a rural area I am limited for choice. My local craft store has gone over to knitting and other than a few Distress Inks and some paper mache letters there is very little paper stuff there. Ho Hum.
Thanks for your visit. Love your card below.

Or the 50s, for some of us :). I still have my Shopping With Mother book. How wonderful that there are postcards. I wish that exhibition wasn't so far away ...

Yes, I do....I bought a card from a small local retailer today. The exhibition looks so interesting. I love the oldest Ladybird books best!

Yes - to an extent, but you've made me think about it more, thank you :) Love the cards you sent, and love that I've seen a couple of them during my blog visits this afternoon!!

It's so important to support small business! And the same with the small coffee shops. Who wants to live in a boring Starbucks world?
